Week of 1/11/11 - TCITR Thoughts

From this week's reading we found ourselves learning much more about the way Holden works, and watched him work his way through the beginning of life after Pencey. Now, onto my thoughts on the questions. First, Holden cannot stop himself from thinking about Jane, what they did in the past, the times they had together, and how he wants to 'reunite' with her, or at least talk to her. She is very influential to him as a character, and I assume she will be involved throughout the story. Next, about what Holden said about things being 'ruined'. I think whether this is true or not depends on whether you believe something can truly be 'ruined'. In my opinion, only you can stop yourself from something you want, not someone else. Lastly, no one has ever 'ruined' something for me that I can remember, so I have nothing to say on this matter.

'The Catcher in the Rye' Thoughts

Alright, so after reading through the first 6 chapters of this book, I have something to say before I answer the questions. This book is quite different to read with all of the slang and such that the author uses, but yet, it still is easy to understand. I just think that is interesting. Now on to the questions. In my opinion, to be unique, you need to be yourself. Everyone is unique, no one person is exactly the same as another. In my opinion, to keep your individuality in the adult world, you again must be yourself. Make sure your 'story' is worth reading. Lastly, the way Allie is similar to a favorite person of mine is that he just seems like a happy go lucky kid, and he knew how to enjoy himself, stay individual. He sure left an impression.
